(I usually Link up with Molli, but for some reason I cannot find the post this morning. I will link up later when I figure out what's wrong.)<br />
<br />
I love a good giveaway. I occasionally win, which is where most of this weeks Sunday stash comes from.<br />
<br />
Early in July, Alison over at <a href="https://littlebunnyquilts.blogspot.com/2017/06/folk-art-fantasy-blog-hop-bunny-patch.html">Little Bunny Quilts</a> participated in a blog hop for Folk Art Fantasy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxFZunPLgEAxO_zTd2mERf2S7CrtygG1ECK6zI7FJUUPyGd0bSe3xjQc02_OEh6TfBAYN4pmlOmH2N4NclE3x8QddoC6FT53gsN240l5FRelZvJJYeGjs3UztC32EF6BZpZ-a4F0IRkW4g/s1600/HPIM0074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1063" data-original-width="1600" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxFZunPLgEAxO_zTd2mERf2S7CrtygG1ECK6zI7FJUUPyGd0bSe3xjQc02_OEh6TfBAYN4pmlOmH2N4NclE3x8QddoC6FT53gsN240l5FRelZvJJYeGjs3UztC32EF6BZpZ-a4F0IRkW4g/s320/HPIM0074.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I was playing with the idea of placemats, similar to Alison's, with Sunbonnet Sue. However, I am working on a few projects and will wait on this one. They might end up part of my quilt for Sarah Fielke's <a href="https://www.sarahfielke.com/pages/block-of-the-month-2017">Down the Rabbit Hole BOM</a>. We will see.<br />
<br />
I also like to embroider and sew, crochet, etc. One of the places I follow is the <a href="http://victorianmottosamplershoppe.blogspot.com/">Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe</a>. Nancy does giveaways fairly often, but since they are very popular, they are also hard to win. I lucked out a few weeks ago and received the lovely Limited Editions box of embroidery thread.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE343_Vo7qfegroBfDOw4tluoiupVTfmWCiL2eb7FUe3lEaEcTc8uGPdmlpns-80HR508VECmOMawss9u8dcm7w64mbIte50DcdSqbzFq9ip1bcGj9CPnHHVRu_79h9qnRAhAl6nvSPSMa/s1600/Victorian+Embroidery+Thread+Limited+Editions.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1222" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE343_Vo7qfegroBfDOw4tluoiupVTfmWCiL2eb7FUe3lEaEcTc8uGPdmlpns-80HR508VECmOMawss9u8dcm7w64mbIte50DcdSqbzFq9ip1bcGj9CPnHHVRu_79h9qnRAhAl6nvSPSMa/s320/Victorian+Embroidery+Thread+Limited+Editions.JPG" width="244" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Connie at <a href="http://www.conniekresin.com/">Freemotion by the River</a> shared some lovely charm packs with me. One she had gotten as an extra with an order and a couple from her stash. She also included a lovely note.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I love the pillows with candlewicking thread. I used to get them from Herrschners, but I'm sure Amazon has them. I love the ones Janlynn makes, they have such beautiful patterns. But I have found the candlewicking thread is easily worn through when sewing and tears apart. I am midway through one pillow and stopped working on it because of the thread issues. My friend Shari also likes these kits and she suggested substituting the candlewicking thread with pearle cotton. It is a similar thickness, but a bit shinier. We will see how that goes when I get back to it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv-A6uXyDRqt-I72FYtjAH0oZdZL5yLX-OcnubkJIZv3qXHM9RF8TaLxyybZZSKEXMZzTn0ApZkQ9msCGSrmlTC2_LiH1Q2dhoPExJp3dqahhkRTEzqHgkmcUnuC8o_ebZk8Xc1i4_Jz3k/s1600/Hussif.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv-A6uXyDRqt-I72FYtjAH0oZdZL5yLX-OcnubkJIZv3qXHM9RF8TaLxyybZZSKEXMZzTn0ApZkQ9msCGSrmlTC2_LiH1Q2dhoPExJp3dqahhkRTEzqHgkmcUnuC8o_ebZk8Xc1i4_Jz3k/s320/Hussif.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For our mid January surprise, Sarah gave us a pattern for a sewing kit, or Hussif. This has pockets on the sides to hold all your sewing notions while traveling, including a pincushion. We had a few options, but I wanted a floral theme and shaped my pincushion as a large leaf. It can lie flat, or over your leg or arm of your chair and rolls up, with a strap, when not in use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't have much to show for the actual BOM quilt, right now. My camera is refusing to send pictures, now, and I am waiting on my templates for the center section. We had the option to preorder, but I thought I could do without. Until the first pattern arrived at the end of January and I tried to source template plastic and discovered how thin that stuff is. Oh, well, first BOM, bound to make a few mistakes =) Mine are otw, shipping will take 2-6 weeks, so I will wait...somewhat impatiently, as the next part is being released next week.</div>

If i'm going to do something or not do something, the time of year doesn't factor in.<br />
<br />
Hubby got me a year long BOM for a present. It starts the end of January and it is Sarah Fielke's <a href="https://www.sarahfielke.com/pages/block-of-the-month-2017">Down the Rabbit Hole</a>. Until January 15th, 2017, you have the option to sign up for monthly payments.<br />
We can't post too much and I'm a little fuzzy on what we can post, right now, so click through and scroll down a bit to see the illustration of the quilt. I am doing a color palette in greens, blues, yellows, reds and oranges, with black or grey bunnies, depends on which I have enough fabric of. I am planning on making the dresdans have a fan appearance, which will require a small change in the original design, so I will have to see if that plan works or not much later.<br />
I really love that we can see a representation of the finished quilt before starting the class, as I am rather particular about what I make. The mystery is what keeps me away from a lot of the BOMs, as I really need to see what I am getting into.<br />
<br />
A couple of winnings: <a href="http://www.gigisfabricshop.com/">Gigi's Fabric Shop</a>, from the 12 Days of Christmas event they hosted on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/gigisfabricshop/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel">facebook</a>. I chose a yard of Rising Tide in Tangerine. I plan on using this for my sunflowers and an outer border. (i borrowed the image from Gigi as the package is on it's way)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHP4is_c8_YuO2MOm20rF7KuZn_jxkUvQBDWOWy0JHOCNQGZ_JavO2x8NhOHqIAJKSH1rqs9jVjnbPCBnEzN_GhSZtTUu-MEOsey6qATXshcPC6_88iPAOvMwI2JZhqxy0lEqTPFAsHvvU/s1600/rising+tide.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHP4is_c8_YuO2MOm20rF7KuZn_jxkUvQBDWOWy0JHOCNQGZ_JavO2x8NhOHqIAJKSH1rqs9jVjnbPCBnEzN_GhSZtTUu-MEOsey6qATXshcPC6_88iPAOvMwI2JZhqxy0lEqTPFAsHvvU/s200/rising+tide.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 2nd winning is this lovely stack of Allison Glass 76, that Aurifil was giving away.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicegm6vQp58ohnerHig2q5S3xW5ksXdPxITv42KJKlNZwavOS5W4EfNMa8NRAqV3mkaLjfuolAfvrPEEeubX34_xWk9kFml0aIaH_kOroG1ONrpUZOQilZGJY7gdY5CoERFAtW9RuaxZHQ/s1600/alison+glass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicegm6vQp58ohnerHig2q5S3xW5ksXdPxITv42KJKlNZwavOS5W4EfNMa8NRAqV3mkaLjfuolAfvrPEEeubX34_xWk9kFml0aIaH_kOroG1ONrpUZOQilZGJY7gdY5CoERFAtW9RuaxZHQ/s320/alison+glass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Complete with matching <a href="http://aurifil.com/">Aurifil</a> threads! (of course) They do Meet the Designer interviews on <a href="https://auribuzz.wordpress.com/">AURIbuzz</a>, with a giveaway for the designers newest fabric collection and a matching set of Aurifil threads. <a href="https://auribuzz.wordpress.com/2016/12/10/seventy-six-by-alison-glass/">Alison Glass did an interview</a> for the release of 76, early in December. Very happy, as there are several colors that are perfect for my new BOM fabric choices and the orange should match the Rising Tide in Tangerine perfectly. I am still deciding if I want to incorporate some of 76 into some of the flowers and leaves for the BOM.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And! I am close to finishing my fairy wallhanging.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu_QOz6_ateJsjj-WxufnE3CTDWV1BI8JYPIi2yre8HYNqDO0QgZWlVVF-SP5cxh9X00xQzvlfiufA9ZLiK61FVvOJuxG0s4atxfJGbIrNUM0IO04rlbCOiSSQ60S0LI8aEKVx_0FhJqh3/s1600/fairy+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu_QOz6_ateJsjj-WxufnE3CTDWV1BI8JYPIi2yre8HYNqDO0QgZWlVVF-SP5cxh9X00xQzvlfiufA9ZLiK61FVvOJuxG0s4atxfJGbIrNUM0IO04rlbCOiSSQ60S0LI8aEKVx_0FhJqh3/s320/fairy+2.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It might be hard to see the difference from the last picture. It is sandwiched and I have my motifs marked with colored chalk. Which will, hopefully, stick around long enough to finish the quilting. I appliqued all the pieces down with just edge stitching and am using the quilting to add details to areas like the wings and skirt.</div>

<br />
This weekend is the 200th post for Sunday Stashing @ <a href="http://mollisparkles.com/">Molli Sparkles</a>. (sorry, running a little late) A few weeks ago I got a lovely $25 Gift Card to the Fat Quarter Shop. Well, you know how hard it is to stop at one fabric, so I ended up with several beautiful yards.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgA5634xgkDKtIBCdCcdduR-Ux0mu7zkq2Z5xregUTyga3PzIodhkaOwVDdv-JNznr-9XYEuIrHckoAxxUyOUb9NeCt25hqR8upneWdCDdBDscitxFHaVinyulE5p-YVFt2LM3s0C3jeS5/s1600/Sunday+Stash+200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgA5634xgkDKtIBCdCcdduR-Ux0mu7zkq2Z5xregUTyga3PzIodhkaOwVDdv-JNznr-9XYEuIrHckoAxxUyOUb9NeCt25hqR8upneWdCDdBDscitxFHaVinyulE5p-YVFt2LM3s0C3jeS5/s320/Sunday+Stash+200.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I adore the metallic fabrics and these are all metallic (except for the small pouch on the right). The uppermost print is Suffolk Metallic Black Floral, the middle fabric is Holiday Flourish Holiday Holly & Ribbon, with the bottom print being Holiday Flourish Frost Branches in Ivory. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now the reason that the Suffolk yardage looks so thick, is because I grabbed 3 yards to make a skirt. The other 2 are about a yard each. There is actually a 4th piece that I do not have a proper pic of, because it is a panel, so I grabbed this pic from the FQS. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/200x/602f0fa2c1f0d1ba5e241f914e856ff9/HolidayFlourish-15758-2-200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://www.fatquartershop.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/200x/602f0fa2c1f0d1ba5e241f914e856ff9/HolidayFlourish-15758-2-200.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 2 Holiday Flourish prints are for borders and binding, so this becomes a Christmas lap quilt. (trying for 44" square)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Along with my order, the Fat Quarter Shop nicely included a Block Nine kit from the 2015 Designer Mystery Block of the month. A very delightful surprise!</div>
Linking up with Molli Sparkles to celebrate his <a href="http://mollisparkles.com/2016/10/sunday-stash-200-party-time/">200th Sunday Stash</a>!<br />

There is always something interesting to look at and you never know what you will find. I have been wanting more bobbins for my featherwieght, but haven't gotten to buying them. Last week there was a sale at an apartment complex nearby and they had this little chocolate box.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Inside were a bunch of bobbins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcB-dYMWJY7QleZ6XzVD8MwtQQEjuAM0Ih5UbG2CC1Ap_gdzZ1Z8w80pqBWVqpSMiAXzI96fFi-t9fVRPkyVIiE7jkjVtlDuCVTxayfRv6egbwFkribwuTTAxn89cwnXW-XXwj0YKxQHu8/s1600/1474744491202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="203" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcB-dYMWJY7QleZ6XzVD8MwtQQEjuAM0Ih5UbG2CC1Ap_gdzZ1Z8w80pqBWVqpSMiAXzI96fFi-t9fVRPkyVIiE7jkjVtlDuCVTxayfRv6egbwFkribwuTTAxn89cwnXW-XXwj0YKxQHu8/s320/1474744491202.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Only 3 for the featherweight.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfApdasIETKu1Ar7W2mzKPOXArsiLvcw-BcApbAn10dK6CFH73bAS0Q6APU9QDRXtiQHCxqeeB0MN0nm-H3utFKeNf90IyVCY1PmaSlNKdc9BFBuQRAGMAP4EV9qqK5cTDCnUPAWRso3-z/s1600/1474744502671.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfApdasIETKu1Ar7W2mzKPOXArsiLvcw-BcApbAn10dK6CFH73bAS0Q6APU9QDRXtiQHCxqeeB0MN0nm-H3utFKeNf90IyVCY1PmaSlNKdc9BFBuQRAGMAP4EV9qqK5cTDCnUPAWRso3-z/s320/1474744502671.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But for $1, who can say no? 3 original featherweight bobbins are definitely worth $1 to me. Now I would have no idea what the others go to, but these 2 are still in their packaging.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My latest finish. I finally found a pattern with the design similar to what I wanted. The design is great, with 4 inner pockets. 3 slotted and a zippered pocket. Very light and holds everything I need, although I would have liked it a tad larger. I chose several batik fabrics, the lining is a white floral batik. The zipper pull is from <a href="http://zappydots.com/">Zappy Dots</a>. They are quilt buttons that are attached to a strong magnet. I have several sets, so I can pick a new one every day, if I want. They are really pretty and they add new designers fairly often.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the pattern I used and I will say that I had a few issues with it. Wide and Long are often interchangeable, so when you use Wide instead of High, things get very confusing. (also, in 3 dimensions we have wide, high, and long, so no, no, and no) Some of the cutting directions are not very good if you are using directional fabric and they did not point out that you will need to cut the pieces out differently. (They have quick cut instructions that result with pieces being cut on their side) Towards the end, when attaching the strap, the instructions direct you to attach the one strap end to the right side of the back and the other end to the opposite side on the front. The issue there is that if you do not look at the picture and instead follow the instructions literally, you will end up with both ends of the strap on the same end of the purse when finished. As I am rather new to purses, I found the instructions confusing and frustrating. I did read the instructions through before beginning, but did not see the issues until I started trying to follow them. Would not recommend.</div>

I post occasionally over on instagram(@minse25) and this was posted over there also. For reference, the tutorial is available at <a href="https://threebears.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/little-boxy-pouch-tutorial/">Three Bears</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrFV6-eVP_9X_ItWel6I3ezRrUszerC7SiT0fjKMlHDgPydM92v5ofncB2E8tAQaxf2YJK_H_euulBLKcUbf4-jh8CcZdMjg62Cne6gwF65_1IYiMNtwXcuOzS4S1sI2-29xgEk0V5kr3/s1600/Blue+Pouch.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrFV6-eVP_9X_ItWel6I3ezRrUszerC7SiT0fjKMlHDgPydM92v5ofncB2E8tAQaxf2YJK_H_euulBLKcUbf4-jh8CcZdMjg62Cne6gwF65_1IYiMNtwXcuOzS4S1sI2-29xgEk0V5kr3/s320/Blue+Pouch.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted a sturdy pouch that would hold a decent sized project and also other items that are often heavy. I often carry bottled water, a gameboy and a few games or other things I need. These are much heavier than a project and the last pouch would not have held the weight. This one is lined with decor bond and than a layer of fusible fleece, so I could get an idea of how they work with each other. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am working on a new purse and wanted an idea of how to handle them, without burning anything. All went well, so I am about to start sewing the new purse. The handles are also fusible fleece and decor bond, which makes everything plushy and stiff at the same time. A very nice touch for handles, which I just discovered.</div>

Haven't made much progress on the large Sweet Pea inspired quilt as it sits on my lap and it has been too hot. Work is busy and stressful, so I should sew, but get home tired..so I don't sew. What I have been working on is this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjS62WJtFUo7ELIVT3uyrll6mhTaUbZjcFbkRpXir8JcIuRQEnkuPYXubfNaIIWB2ncyMILT_FuH9X0wQb1Ki29mN8t6ksChKNT1Arl8rBsNo3IystgvVPhA9v4JrvcUjs3iOLs0WOtaXn/s1600/Geisha.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjS62WJtFUo7ELIVT3uyrll6mhTaUbZjcFbkRpXir8JcIuRQEnkuPYXubfNaIIWB2ncyMILT_FuH9X0wQb1Ki29mN8t6ksChKNT1Arl8rBsNo3IystgvVPhA9v4JrvcUjs3iOLs0WOtaXn/s320/Geisha.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A lovely Geisha girl. I had a set of kits at one time. The other is finished (many years ago) and elsewhere, as it was a gift to my Gpa-in-law. I know you can't see too much of her, right now. The pink is her Obi and the blue is her kimono. There are flowers on her kimono, which is why there are gaps in the stitching on the left. (I have misplaced the cover picture)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am working on a boxy pouch project bag that is larger than the last one. It just needs a little more work. The lining and the corners and it is finished.</div>

P really enjoyed it. I brought along a craft project to help fill time, since we had about 45 mins to kill with needing to arrive in advance for parking. We had planned to go into the pit area, but that proved unrealistic, as there was an hour line to get in. We ended up passing on that. We would never have made it into the pit area before it closed for the show.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZjLHMM43H3raPoBUdmLAZK_20O_EkAWKR_IE9napxFnceRw19jqAG8N0WChP3gX2r9HbyzYF4TaSCAxttQtwVfAGwTgxXN6jNOdm47TncAcUKfCbhilz_mAW8fl9qezPFESfGxOAj2lIl/s1600/bird+pouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZjLHMM43H3raPoBUdmLAZK_20O_EkAWKR_IE9napxFnceRw19jqAG8N0WChP3gX2r9HbyzYF4TaSCAxttQtwVfAGwTgxXN6jNOdm47TncAcUKfCbhilz_mAW8fl9qezPFESfGxOAj2lIl/s320/bird+pouch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made a little pouch to hold my project.</div>
<br />
I make Christmas ornaments each year and will post those later. I am big on working on them during the summer and then having them done. What I make depends on what craft mood I am in that year. I have made felt bears, crocheted stars, and mini felt mittens and stockings. I try to make something different each year. This year I am trying beaded snowflakes. So, this pouch was the perfect size for all my beads and tools. (it is roughly 5"h x 4"d x 6"l)<br />
<br />
I was working with 5" charm squares and the poor little birdy lost his head in the seam. I really couldn't leave it like that, so i embroidered an outline if his body and added his head back on. It gave a nice textured effect. I also added some small blue beads to the feathers in the front for a little bling.<br />
<br />
If you want to make one, I followed the tutorial at <a href="https://threebears.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/little-boxy-pouch-tutorial/">Three Bears</a>. I just sewed together a few charm squares and a jelly roll strip before cutting out the required dimensions for the sides. Super easy to make. Really easy to pull together from your stash. All I bought was the zipper. I just started working with them and haven't added them to my 'keep in stock' list.Emily Chttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10330290875191349258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769195646270082808.post-74314918458968063872016-04-10T11:30:00.000-04:002016-04-10T11:30:14.534-04:00Sunday Stash 4-10-2016On April Fools Day, The Intrepid Thread ran a nice weekend sale, with many fabrics $4-8 a yard. So, I picked up a few things.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCG83j8M-z4BmRvjeuoksu0I2n8mLiVlyal4T6FpO4G2xZIxvNzhhjCite5rnpse8-8m2xXNTLrLTQHldfgwKm_F8NOyzrKn3olGZEsSeb8DaeU_KwINJpowqqqgI_oxez8w5PQmbuSlu/s1600/Intrepid+Thread.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCG83j8M-z4BmRvjeuoksu0I2n8mLiVlyal4T6FpO4G2xZIxvNzhhjCite5rnpse8-8m2xXNTLrLTQHldfgwKm_F8NOyzrKn3olGZEsSeb8DaeU_KwINJpowqqqgI_oxez8w5PQmbuSlu/s320/Intrepid+Thread.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived all wrapped up like a present, even with a little bow.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8x9gqrVL6IW74z3y0aBeNq3X40RSZgFf54BuV3-FQzTRlLyDRN_RplbbE6zyTvpxRICreokkhNhqoHXm3ciW9jgWEVR2uRXXGaED_DH7Sn1ITgSV4R3UHa9iqd0gAoBekwlm-2Uplxt9P/s1600/Intrepid+Thread+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8x9gqrVL6IW74z3y0aBeNq3X40RSZgFf54BuV3-FQzTRlLyDRN_RplbbE6zyTvpxRICreokkhNhqoHXm3ciW9jgWEVR2uRXXGaED_DH7Sn1ITgSV4R3UHa9iqd0gAoBekwlm-2Uplxt9P/s320/Intrepid+Thread+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I tend to grab 1/2 yards when the prices are good. 1/4ths are not really sufficient and a yard can strain the budget. In order from left to right: 1/2yd Making Waves in blue, Atrium: Grace and Deco Bloom on fushia, Solstice Embellishment Laurel, Christmas Lovebirds in snow and Bluebird Fox Tracks.<br />
These are not all 1/2yds, however, as I have plans for some. The Solstice is a yard as it will make a great border, but only if placed vertical and I got 3 yards of the Bludbird Tracks. For the Making Waves, I have been working on an idea for another dolphin walhanging and the Bluebird Tracks are going to become a new skirt.<br />
As for the purse I was working on last week, that is now finished.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

(I purchase for specific projects or if a shop has an insanely good sale)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH3kJxS-svYAVimPm6Fauh9QDVeQBOX2_KdmVNQpjux7PfrpMTswHhD2rEVIDGztDrGyIxJRBBWdafKtm5GDU0463B8kuTqGDlxjhKi70xFv-2Qj_pM7DtCLLRQuxNa0RJa8GPGI-9Hj-m/s1600/Swirls+and+black+fabric.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH3kJxS-svYAVimPm6Fauh9QDVeQBOX2_KdmVNQpjux7PfrpMTswHhD2rEVIDGztDrGyIxJRBBWdafKtm5GDU0463B8kuTqGDlxjhKi70xFv-2Qj_pM7DtCLLRQuxNa0RJa8GPGI-9Hj-m/s320/Swirls+and+black+fabric.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I created the pattern for the purse myself, which created unknowns in buying fabric. Would I need to start over, if i make a serious error? If the purse is too small, would I need to make another? So, i got 2 yards of the black and 1.25 yards of the grey swirls at my LQS Stitch Your Art Out. I love my LQS, the people who work there are always happy to help (and they stock the YKK zippers!). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Buying extra of the black worked out far better than I had anticipated, as straps are better made of one piece of fabric. This would not have been possible with a smaller cut, since a shoulder strap runs 55ish inches long(before attaching).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have made some progress this weekend on the purse WIP, but the lining is proving troublesome (I had to put in a center divider) and I expect at least 3 more hours before it is finished. Which was more time than I had left in this weekend's free time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am linking up with the Sunday Stash @ <a href="http://www.raspberryspool.com/sunday-stash-second-look/">Raspberry Spool</a> & <a href="http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2016/04/sunday-stash-japanese-tenegui/">Blossom Heart Quilts</a>. I would provide more details, but I don't have a manufacturer listed on the selvage of the swirls. I believe the black is Kona. </div>

I picked up a 1/2 yard awhile back of the blue and decided it would make a lovely outside for my new purse. It is one of those prints I hate to use for anything small, as it really detracts from the beauty of the print. I picked up a yard-ish of the grey swirls to use as lining at my LQS. Very fortunate to have one a few miles away.</div>

Canton Village Quilt Works is relocating to Arizona and has been running an awesome sale, where the discount grows each week. She wants to sell out of all the quilting fabric before the move.<br />
So, after sitting on my hands for a few weeks and letting the discount grow, I picked up these. (gotta hit the sweet spot where awesome discount and inventory meet. Wait too long and you have nothing to choose from.)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few months ago, while I was working on other projects (including an online embroidery class), my MIL requested a baby quilt for a friend of hers. Since the baby was due in January, I had some time to prepare. She only specified that the baby was a girl and left the rest of the details up to what I had on hand and what I could get to flesh out the pattern I used. Emphasis on inexpensive. (yes. yes. I know, don't do the math. I know what time and effort are worth, when doing calculations for what a quilt should cost.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Rp07QImM1V4SYuDP4XdLWGldQXZn41E0V93rRzso7CVeRtrcD4hn4jkbHy-ZElUWkDRUg4neM22Jmr8x-CrwaDbDY18dKTjjsm-jDwQB45Lr-hri7xwhUHJvWFZPohead57fHUu6C0HK/s1600/Zoo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Rp07QImM1V4SYuDP4XdLWGldQXZn41E0V93rRzso7CVeRtrcD4hn4jkbHy-ZElUWkDRUg4neM22Jmr8x-CrwaDbDY18dKTjjsm-jDwQB45Lr-hri7xwhUHJvWFZPohead57fHUu6C0HK/s320/Zoo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had some cute zoo fabric and some glittery dragonflies. Since the zoo fabric was a fat quarter, it didn't quite make a square. I used some Moda Marbles to make it fit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did have to pick up some owls to create contrast, the lovely purple for binding and some Aurifil thread to match.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIM5KgRSzce2HbAv3qFderO5C5ZIyywQw0t8NtQapxWKkdz16J-9nOnm2w8uvPXTw7RifGUF_Siok05x2JV3j7y75siOukee0qvFN4Sf3I7D-BUAOazMi0q8bY37ldZKy72yZ68C8-8emi/s1600/Featherwieght.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIM5KgRSzce2HbAv3qFderO5C5ZIyywQw0t8NtQapxWKkdz16J-9nOnm2w8uvPXTw7RifGUF_Siok05x2JV3j7y75siOukee0qvFN4Sf3I7D-BUAOazMi0q8bY37ldZKy72yZ68C8-8emi/s320/Featherwieght.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My GMIL lent me her Singer Featherwieght. (excuse my work area, the dining room table is my workspace right now) I love using this little cutie. It was made for quilting and made life so much easier. I even did the machine quilting on it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This lovely fabric looks like princessy pearls strung between mirrors. What a perfect backing. Along with more Moda Marbles to create tiles and square out the quilt. (40" square finished)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLjPcnC2cWj-3vqj9TcrHqQ-nEQk4gy1BbUx8bqG_WmmFmGJ9SeULIWt7oJ-KhHoW4lp1jc0paBvsg3aQwKOZX-_LvvyMM3bDjySzQebXjvopcmUe87AgC0kO61PrwaUVg9dcoYjiCw3Eb/s1600/Zoo+Quilt+Front+Close+Up+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLjPcnC2cWj-3vqj9TcrHqQ-nEQk4gy1BbUx8bqG_WmmFmGJ9SeULIWt7oJ-KhHoW4lp1jc0paBvsg3aQwKOZX-_LvvyMM3bDjySzQebXjvopcmUe87AgC0kO61PrwaUVg9dcoYjiCw3Eb/s320/Zoo+Quilt+Front+Close+Up+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did a simple diamond shaped motif, that created an even quilted textures, while leaving the quilt fluffy and soft. It is hard to see from the pictures, but for each zoo scene I stitched long with certain scene lines(like the signs), so the scene transfers to the back with the quilting. I used a light green thread for this, for contrast. I love how pretty this is and it creates a nice puffy center to each square.</div>

This word has gotten a lot of use lately, as many crafters have stated that their New Years resolution is to clean up their craft supplies. Cleaning up your stash and using it to make awesome quilts and projects is great. However, one should never feel guilty for collecting. I have had one collection or another since I was little. You never know when you will need something. I started with stamps (and still have them), my mothers pen pals would send me stamps. I have some from Australia, Canada and the UK. I also embroider, cross stitch, quilt and have gotten back into coloring books. I have a decent collection for each. Many overlap and I keep my collections organized.<br />
<br />
Lately it seems that many feel that having a large collection is equivalent to being a hoarder. While the definition for hoarding is to collect much, being a hoarder has turned into collecting trash to the point where one cannot move. I say that there is no reason to feel guilty about collecting things you need, for a craft you love, as long as you are not collecting for the sake of collecting. If your craft area is organized with totes and boxes and the craft stays in the craft area for the most part, you collect. If your craft area is spilling into other parts of the house and your house is starting to look like this<br />
<br />
<img alt="See, Mom? My undergrad apartment wasn't *that* bad." src="http://images2.houstonpress.com/imager/u/original/6391457/hoarding0106.jpg" /><br />
should you consider using the word hoarder. So, I dug through my stash and made a trip (or 2 to my LQS). This is the current result.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwpArtxIspbqqO2tXTbGouz2ts9yUgmiSQ18u0fHy5AC0MAzmQbiUWiODvxA8xRsYTMz2gyTYoNU3erqBoTr6Mn2DYE1IN0TnSVppjdhOVnn_5AhBOPBJGXCk0JbdtISKEgxZunbxdZUJP/s1600/Zoo+quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwpArtxIspbqqO2tXTbGouz2ts9yUgmiSQ18u0fHy5AC0MAzmQbiUWiODvxA8xRsYTMz2gyTYoNU3erqBoTr6Mn2DYE1IN0TnSVppjdhOVnn_5AhBOPBJGXCk0JbdtISKEgxZunbxdZUJP/s320/Zoo+quilt.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have 4 finished blocks, 20" square. Now I just have to decide which order the blocks go in and find a place big enough to sandwich the quilt.<br />
The best part of this project is the seams.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb9HKxxiT0IfrhAzRQuAormpoENVPsbkf3FIOUd9vDH5zOIhxPosxh6zDbDIbrp3Owcd1divDJjMqnGxCPgJvhFmm59YmTkZjvZUkxABFdTRcg0j32_abOI_YbnJV_J-bkD-MtHt9mUVQo/s1600/zoo+quilt+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb9HKxxiT0IfrhAzRQuAormpoENVPsbkf3FIOUd9vDH5zOIhxPosxh6zDbDIbrp3Owcd1divDJjMqnGxCPgJvhFmm59YmTkZjvZUkxABFdTRcg0j32_abOI_YbnJV_J-bkD-MtHt9mUVQo/s320/zoo+quilt+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Normally I have a horrible time with 1/4" seams and getting the corners to come out perfectly. As you can see, not this time.<br />
My little secret?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaYs6u7sKalPZvnokOG7xXWam8l41CqQfSlk2blZPelpOXJJlF3sOCX4sPzi2CZafbYZ0e983dPAwXIAAvMZrg9Tbv0CgAL8fbTkO0plrSXV2H98g1D4dqutSHrFpTUmKvMSeGcyk_x7YH/s1600/Featherwieght.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaYs6u7sKalPZvnokOG7xXWam8l41CqQfSlk2blZPelpOXJJlF3sOCX4sPzi2CZafbYZ0e983dPAwXIAAvMZrg9Tbv0CgAL8fbTkO0plrSXV2H98g1D4dqutSHrFpTUmKvMSeGcyk_x7YH/s320/Featherwieght.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My GMIL let me borrow her Singer Featherwieght! I had not realized how much trouble using a sewing machine designed for sewing clothes was causing. (I have a Singer Fashionmate) The Featherwieght has a 1/4" foot and the proper markings. Amazing how much easier the seams are now. (excuse the mess, my dining room table doubles as my sewing table. Yet another reason I wanted to borrow the Featherwieght. Moving mine all the time gives one a backache.)Emily Chttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10330290875191349258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769195646270082808.post-64661505838367286252015-11-21T11:08:00.001-05:002015-11-21T11:09:17.123-05:00Weights and Bag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I finished the Stitchmap course! The last step was making a drawstring bag to hold all the weights. I learned a lot from this course. I usually buy kits and use the stitches chosen by the designer. To make them beginner friendly (I assume), they typically only include back stitch, outline, and variations of satin stitch. Blanket I was familiar with, as I use it for applique. The rest were quite fun to learn (open and closed chain, stem, and split to name a few) and it was great seeing the different uses for the stitches, past what I normally work with.<br />
<br />
For the new baby quilt, I have made a bit of progress and am now on ironing this pile.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6pXCODWMKJ9UMUCf07087vvXpWHFxl_E42CzqqkcUvE3u1JU09vfGqCgUJru8bbUVgbYBXrpjcldOoooP4bX7uTw9lgHIWjuxi9kNO7-Ahw5anoiFGP8bnR2kj4y9JLmNqNm9NRQGEcjV/s1600/Baby+pile.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6pXCODWMKJ9UMUCf07087vvXpWHFxl_E42CzqqkcUvE3u1JU09vfGqCgUJru8bbUVgbYBXrpjcldOoooP4bX7uTw9lgHIWjuxi9kNO7-Ahw5anoiFGP8bnR2kj4y9JLmNqNm9NRQGEcjV/s320/Baby+pile.JPG" width="299" /></a></div>
Fat quarters do not divide up into squares. To offset the rectangle, I used a blue and white blender that nicely matches with everything. The pile are all HSTs, going in 2 directions, to create a cross pattern around the zoo centerpiece.<br />
<br />
This one is an almost finished.<br />

There is just a little bit of brown in the lower right and a little back stitching for edging on a few areas and then a frame. Intended for my MILs birthday.</div>

I don't often have new purchases to post, as I typically buy when I am starting a new project. A few weeks ago my MIL asked me to make a baby quilt for a friend of hers, that is due in January. After going through my stash, I just needed a contrasting fabric. So, I bought a yard of these cute little guys at my LQS.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHVGH-J0HhS8J-jvxJIZ3Hr9AyQQ816ZRjQugyACj3mxSMZPv3YlXPuOuTsHZkdri50WSRuwGS2xseKP6H9qOEMkYhVPiXopZWvXZkIgVJJ4LI0vqFeLYbNE02j_jb5kHN8eBRPggeq8ME/s1600/Owls.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHVGH-J0HhS8J-jvxJIZ3Hr9AyQQ816ZRjQugyACj3mxSMZPv3YlXPuOuTsHZkdri50WSRuwGS2xseKP6H9qOEMkYhVPiXopZWvXZkIgVJJ4LI0vqFeLYbNE02j_jb5kHN8eBRPggeq8ME/s320/Owls.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They are perfect for this quilt. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To the owls, I am adding some cute Zoo fabric and some dragonflies. I had bought the dragonflies for another project, but being a destash I got 3 yards, when I only needed 1, so I have plenty.</div>

My lazy sunday project is organizing my fabric into Quiltology.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To give you an idea what I am working with. I have managed to pick up quite a bit of fabric and am inputting it into Quiltology. Quiltology is a quilt creation app for the iPad. So each piece is entered with a photo, a size, name, manufacturer, and colors. Later I can create quilts and blocks and insert the photos to see what the finished item will look like. While I am enjoying the app, I see a large time investment inputting my stash to get started properly. If anyone has an easier/faster way, let me know. =)</div>

This piece will become a small drawstring bag to hold the pattern weights. (please excuse the extra shadows, not sure how they appeared)<br />

What is the opposite of an update?<br />
<br />
I learned the hard way that you cannot sandwich a quilt top with polyester batting and then hand quilt it over 3 years. I handled the fabric too much and the edge on the batting started pulling out and stretching. A quick fix was to flip the backing over and pin it down to prevent anymore stretching.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1SIpA1x7eSvl26PIYZXzsDWgXAs6z8GKF9TlVbqv6WeGxgxbNOOmCtqYIQCUQ29epUO1_J5-O41Cun71k33GVBH3EMpCPOH1zdWZqjGQZj8FfSo2cKEKBBpw2XWOw4ZukA8Ntr1cyz8Bv/s1600/Quilt+flip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1SIpA1x7eSvl26PIYZXzsDWgXAs6z8GKF9TlVbqv6WeGxgxbNOOmCtqYIQCUQ29epUO1_J5-O41Cun71k33GVBH3EMpCPOH1zdWZqjGQZj8FfSo2cKEKBBpw2XWOw4ZukA8Ntr1cyz8Bv/s320/Quilt+flip.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
But 4-5" all the way around were stretched out and it ended up shelved. I do this when I need time to think. I had been wanting to rip it apart, but was 1/2 way through the quilting. I had to decide if I was ever going to be happy with the current version and the answer was no. I hated to rip all the quilting out, but I doubted I could get the stretching polyester batting to look good and 2 of the blocks had points going in the wrong direction. At this point too many things were wrong and I was hating the results.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://warmcompany.com/sites/default/files/products/main.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://warmcompany.com/sites/default/files/products/main.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(borrowed the pic from The Warm Company)</span></div>
<br />
While I was deciding, The Warm Company had a giveaway for some Warm and Plush on their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Warm-Company/261044530611534">Facebook page</a>, and I won! I really love this batting, it is thick and plush and looks very warm. Although in a quilt this size, it is quite a bit heavier than the polyester, and is proving a bit on the heavy side for hand quilting.<br />
<br />
There are no pictures, right now, of the sweet pea inspiration quilt because I have just gotten it resandwiched. I did finish the dolphin wall hanging.<br />

<br />
This is hanging at work. It makes a beautiful light shade, as I had a window blinding me when the sun went down. We have cubicles with glass panels near the top, so I got some of the suction cup hooks. They work perfectly for this.<br />
<br />
I started another of the StitchMap courses. This one is Redwork and teaches the stitches commonly used for redwork.<br />
So far, I am up to Lesson 3 and this butterfly is my favorite piece. The filling in the body is split stitch. I had not used this stitch before, but I really love the effect it creates.<br />

<br />
I adore Christmas in July. I always start planning Christmas presents months in advance. I usually start planning in May or June, so I have plenty of time to choose. This year I have gotten a few pleasant surprises, which I hope to turn into Christmas presents. Besides the batting (which arrived a month or 2 ago), I have also won this lovely FQ bundle from Timeless Treasures, Charleston, from the <a href="https://ttfabrics.com/blog-tour-charleston-by-revive/">Blog Tour</a> they held a few weeks ago.<br />

Pictures are terrible for this fabric, since it has a beautiful gold lame design. This does not pick up in the pictures and has a very nice glint to it. I had no idea, having not seen this collection in person and was very nicely surprised when it arrived.<br />

I have plans for these, but I need to design the pattern, so I am not sure when I will have time. Sadly, I do not have much extra time, as I am working hard at work and at my lessons from StitchMap.Emily Chttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10330290875191349258noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769195646270082808.post-54401393467370779752015-05-22T07:54:00.001-04:002015-05-22T15:24:42.318-04:00Traveling Stash UpdateCongratulations to Laura for having her name pulled to receive the Traveling Stash! She blogs at <a href="http://annalsofcreation.blogspot.com/">Annals of Creation</a>.<br />
<br />
I have been rather lazy lately. My sewing projects have not progressed much farther. Part of the delay is I started a counted cross stitch and forgot how long they take. I had surgery a few weeks ago and that took about a week off of projects. The other delay is this lovely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9DbEBBIuW6HDfS4ZshOuK9CwB6hyphenhyphenpvEb51dj_iWlL5TCDEhncF2rg58W9b6FB9_vvSQY2tk9alBgV9fZFjC-ibUATQqAOPvptv9s4UbebuBqFBbNCzIvPntOfd3QNuBR7owsAtvy6Qk5e/s1600/dolphin+cover.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9DbEBBIuW6HDfS4ZshOuK9CwB6hyphenhyphenpvEb51dj_iWlL5TCDEhncF2rg58W9b6FB9_vvSQY2tk9alBgV9fZFjC-ibUATQqAOPvptv9s4UbebuBqFBbNCzIvPntOfd3QNuBR7owsAtvy6Qk5e/s320/dolphin+cover.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I picked this kit up from an Etsy shop called <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/BamaLulaSupplies">Bama Luna Supplies</a>. Her pricing is a little inconsistent, but she has some nice items (great shop, but both orders I got smelled like cigarette smoke. Not sure if it her or the source, since she resells). I picked up several items, including another kit. Finished, this kit is about 17" x 20". Unfortunately, the instructions are bordering on worthless and I have had to research several new techniques and make several changes. For Example, the cute leaf shaped loop on the bias does not work out in assembly, since making them 4" will put them up next to the binding. Making them smaller is not possible due to the size of the bias (and I already shrunk that down from 5/8" to 1/2"). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQSmJB4uvwOn_hT7SsEdK3CrZTsOwVvSq8RBKD9LLVst1ymZ0Hik95fYOehtfvY0-NilluPnqyz750YUz8f8qHNM_CWVF6kpGeto6euHBYIDg-U-6KHkYduI20oT6KQxn7G34R8bksKA86/s1600/dolphin+beads.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQSmJB4uvwOn_hT7SsEdK3CrZTsOwVvSq8RBKD9LLVst1ymZ0Hik95fYOehtfvY0-NilluPnqyz750YUz8f8qHNM_CWVF6kpGeto6euHBYIDg-U-6KHkYduI20oT6KQxn7G34R8bksKA86/s320/dolphin+beads.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 2 grey pieces that came with the kit were not to my taste, neither was the sky fabric, which looked more like cotton candy tie dye than sky. I am also adding some accent beadwork and hope to get to the actual quilting by the end of next week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For a quick rundown on construction: the stained glass dolphin is a pattern, drawn on freezer paper, then cut out and then assembled atop iron-on stabilizer. Once the dolphin is attached to the stabilizer, the bias tape is measured and ironed on one piece at a time to create the stained glass look. After I squared up the background fabric, I centered the dolphin and added the purple bias. Since the original placement did not work out, I removed the loops and created mitered corners, although then I had to decide how to finish the corners. In the end, I trimmed the bottom piece of bias to be even with the outer side of the top piece of bias tape and gave the other end a tail to tuck into the bottom piece, flipping it under the mitered corner. This resulted in a small bump, but much better than having the end show. </div>

<br />
A great many changes since my last post. I have switched jobs and have been keeping very busy working on an online craft course. Currently progressing through the color theory course, which is just about finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0KiuDu6BQvBDnkqlvTxTqF9W1i18y2YFCr684os9zWjzCkzvbDqZtrRCItZhZnFaitJX0Gg_nH7LunLdno0Q9Vi6Nvm6pwf-LkJ2VnavArFu9IAk5lRSv5D5ZQv7JeujZci4Z7sO4CwBu/s1600/Color+Wheel+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0KiuDu6BQvBDnkqlvTxTqF9W1i18y2YFCr684os9zWjzCkzvbDqZtrRCItZhZnFaitJX0Gg_nH7LunLdno0Q9Vi6Nvm6pwf-LkJ2VnavArFu9IAk5lRSv5D5ZQv7JeujZci4Z7sO4CwBu/s1600/Color+Wheel+2.JPG" height="320" width="243" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made my own color wheel (for reference when picking colors).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Made a few examples of different color combinations and am currently working on more difficult colors, like Achromatic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So that is where my spare time has been going.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A few months ago, I received a traveling stash. Unfortunately, it has paused in its travels and is still hanging out here. If anyone would like to have the Traveling Stash move on to their house, just observe the rules. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Boxes should move on at a reasonable pace, please have an active blog. </li>
<li style="text-align: left;">This is a large priority mailing box and you can save some money by prepaying online and printing the mail label.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Only include items that you would be proud to own.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Please do not include items that are from a smoker house.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Do not trade out items to get rid of yardage that is below quilter quality. The box is intended to trade goods that you do not use for items that you would use, not as a dumping ground for older, worn or low quality items.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://sewinglyalong.blogspot.com/2012/04/traveling-stash-rules-guidelines.html">Sewingly Along</a> has an excellent post listing the rules for the stash. She was once the organizer. The current organizer is Tricia at <a href="http://tricia-ramblingsofaquilter.blogspot.com/">Ramblings of a Quilter</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Leave a comment, if you are interested in the Traveling Stash. The deadline is April 24th. I will draw that weekend and let you know before Monday.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This quilt is finally starting to get close to the halfway point. Most of the actual blocks are completed, but the long stretches of brown sashing are very intimidating. I know that I will be working with acres of green variegated thread and that brown sashing for months. Hand quilting is fun, but wow, it takes up a lot of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hopefully you can see the motif in this picture. It blends in more than I intended. The motif is a leaf with a few swirls.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These blocks are just edged with complimentary thread. My stitches are not always uniform or as small as I would like them, so I am blending them into the fabric.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the part that is annoying about hand quilting. I have handled the quilt so much that the batting on the edges is stretching out and tearing away from the quilt where it is pinned. I will have to figure out a better fix, but for right now I have flipped the back of the quilt up over the batting and pinned it down to prevent the batting from moving.</div>

I did not realize exactly how busy being a temporary employee would make you. A few things have changed. We moved, I have switched temp assignments a few times and am currently at a long term assignment. I have been sewing. There is some progress on the Sweet Pea-like quilt, but not much else.<br />
<br />
One of my coworkers had a baby shower, so I made her an Amish Puzzle Ball.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found a tutorial at <a href="http://sweaterdoll.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/freemade-amish-puzzle-ball-tutorial.html">Sweater Doll</a>, she does a very good job of explaining how to create the ball and how the puzzle works. If you are not familiar with the ball, please visit her site, I only took a few quick pictures before wrapping, as I had a tight deadline. This ball is made with scraps from the last baby quilt I made and the ellipses work really well with smaller scraps. The center of the ball is not as scrappy, as I needed 6 1/2" circles. You have to stuff these really tight, so I used a lot of scraps to fill the ball, all 100% cotton. Fiberfill, besides being polyester, just doesn't pack tight enough.</div>
